Full Version and Limited Versions
For users working with passive fibers only, the cheaper Passive Edition of RP Fiber Power is available, which contains everything except the optical power calculations for active fiber devices. One may use the mode solver in conjunction with the powerful script language for studying and optimizing fiber designs, for example.
Also, it is possible to obtain a version not containing the features for ultrashort pulse propagation.
Owners of a license for a limited edition have the option to buy an upgrade for the full version if they need this later on.
Commercial Licenses
Licenses for the commercial use of RP Fiber Power, e.g. by companies producing fiber amplifiers and related equipment, can be purchased from RP Photonics. Such licenses can be used for all internal purposes of the company (not for services to third parties).
The license fee includes 8 hours of technical support. This support can also be used for help with a concrete modeling problem, or even for general technical advice on your R & D project. Of course, further support can be obtained, normally with payment based on an hourly rate.

Non-commercial Licenses
Universities and other educational institutions can obtain licenses for non-commercial use at a substantially reduced price. Such licenses may be used for purposes of research and for education, e.g. in specialized classes on optical fiber communications technology. However, it is not permitted to use such licenses for work in collaboration with a partner pursuing commercial goals, except if this partner has a commercial license himself.
The license fee includes 4 support hours.

Cooperation with DPM Photonics
RP Photonics is cooperating with DPM Photonics, a U.S. company, concerning software sales. It is possible (although not required, even for U.S. customers) to order the software via DPM Photonics. For some U.S. customers, this may be advantageous. In any case, delivery and support will be done by Dr. Paschotta of RP Photonics, the developer of the software.
Another Option: Consultancy
You do not necessarily have to posses a license of this software in order to profit from it. Instead, you may obtain consultancy from Dr. Paschotta. He can actually do more for you than any software could: analyze your data, do some sanity checks, give advice for further spectroscopic measurements, work out optimized designs, explain technical limitations, alternative technical approaches, etc. And of course it takes you less time to get your results.
Of course, you may later on decide to purchase a software license. You will then obtain the script files worked out by RP Photonics for your project, so that you can further refine the model or consider cases with modified parameters.
