Tachyons

Definition: elementary particles traveling faster than light

Tachyons are hypothetical particles, traveling with velocities above the vacuum velocity of light. Formally, such particles would appear to be possible in the theory of special relativity, but they have never been observed. (Even if they would exist, they would not have to violate causality.) Therefore, light must still be considered the physical phenomenon with the fastest propagation velocity.
