Check List for Femtosecond Lasers

Click here to see a check list before buying such products!
  • At what wavelength should it emit – with what precision or stability, and with what bandwidth?
  • What is the required average output power?
  • What is the output beam quality? (It will normally be close to diffraction-limited.)
  • What is the pulse duration, peak power and pulse repetition rate (variable or fixed)?
  • Is the pulse quality high enough concerning time–bandwidth product, temporal pedestals, pre- and after-pulses, and possible side lobes in the spectrum?
  • Will the pulse properties be stable in some range of temperatures and over a longer time?
  • Is the device sensitive to back-reflections? (Will you need a Faraday isolator to protect it? With what degree of isolation?)
  • Are the outer dimensions of the laser source setup and power supply or driver suitable for you?
  • Is the device sufficiently robust? (Does it require realignment after moderate mechanical shocks?)

In case that you need additional advice, consultancy from RP Photonics may be the solution.

Cyclone is a broad bandwidth femtosecond fibre laser. It provides the shortest pulses on the market generated by a fibre laser, with durations less than 20 fs. Cyclone provides outstanding peak power (>200 kW) over a wide spectrum of 900–1200 nm. These parameters allow for increased brightness and reduced photodamage, making the Cyclone laser perfect for multiphoton microscopy, SHG microscopy and a variety of other nonlinear processing and spectroscopy applications.

Zephyr is an ultrafast fiber laser comb with GHz range repetition rates, providing more than 1.5 W of average power. Its optical spectrum is centred at 1535 nm and delivers pulses shorter than 100 fs. Zephyr is the ideal fiber laser for optical communications.

Pulsar offers extreme pulse control and tunability: pulse durations of 200 fs to 600 fs, pulse energies <10 pJ to >10 nJ, repetition rates from single shot to 10 MHz.

The Stuttgart Instruments Primus is an ultrafast solid-state laser at 1040 nm central wavelength. It provides several Watts of output power at 40 MHz pulse repetition rate and 450 fs pulse duration.

Its outstanding low noise level (which even reaches the shot noise limit above 300 kHz) and its excellent long-term stability enable ultrasensitive applications.

The entire system is encapsulated in a solid CNC-cut and water-cooled housing, thus reaching excellent robustness against external perturbations.

The Primus is perfectly suited to pump the Stuttgart Instruments Alpha, which is a modular wavelength-tunable laser system covering the 700 nm to 20 µm spectral range in its maximum configuration. Shot-noise limited performance at milliwatt- to watt-level power is reached, making this system ideal for IR spectroscopy, material analysis, process monitoring or quantum technologies.
