Buying Fiber End Caps
Fiber end caps, not containing a fiber core, can be spliced to fiber ends. When a fiber with such a core-less end cap is inserted in a fiber connector, for example, any parasitic reflections will mostly not get back into the fiber core. Also, the optical intensity at the glass/air interface is much reduced, solving problems with fiber damage at high optical powers. Fiber end caps are also used for terminating photonic crystal fibers.
