Particularly paramagnetic materials (crystals and glasses) can exhibit a substantial Faraday rotation effect, making them useful e.g. for Faraday rotators and isolators. Various other properties can be relevant for that, such as high transparency in the required spectral region. TGG crystals are a common example.
