Buyer's Guide … the one with the Encyclopedia!

Where to Buy Optical Strain Sensors

Optical strain sensors, such as those based on fiber Bragg gratings, measure mechanical strain. These sensors can also enable distributed sensing along a long fiber, providing comprehensive strain measurement over large areas.

Before You Buy: Learn About Optical Strain Sensors

With its comprehensive resources, RP Photonics helps you to well prepare purchase decisions:

Some aspects to consider before buying optical strain sensors: measurement accuracy, resolution, sensor type, signal processing, alignment, mounting options, environmental stability, ease of use, compatibility, maintenance requirements.

Manufacturers and Other Suppliers for Optical Strain Sensors

13 suppliers for optical strain sensors are listed in the RP Photonics Buyer's Guide, out of which 3 present their product descriptions. Both manufacturers and distributors can be registered.

For making a list of those suppliers which you want to check more closely, first mark all suitable ones by clicking on the entries (making their background light gray). Then click on this button:

FBG based strain sensors are devices that are commonly used by engineers to measure the effect of external forces on an object. They measure strain directly, which can be used to indirectly determine stress, torque, pressure, deflection, and many other measurements.

The FS62 optical strain sensors of the newLight sensor series are designed to easily retrieve static and dynamic strain measurements for stress analysis in smart materials, machines, components, and other types of structures.

With different encapsulations, materials, and attachment methods, they fulfill the requirements of strain measurements for smart materials testing, laboratory, and structural health monitoring (SHM) applications. Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) strain sensors from HBK are available in two configurations: Linear configuration for measuring strain in a single direction. This is the ideal configuration for monitoring or stress analysis on a well-known direction. Rosette configuration, comprising three Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) on the same fiber and substrate. Measurements are taken in different directions for biaxial stress analysis with a single installation and small footprint.
