Alpes Lasers is a Swiss engineering company and leader in the development of optoelectronic devices in the Mid-Infrared (MIR) and Near-Infrared (NIR) range. From our central location within Switzerland and Europe, we are dedicated to promoting these technologies to customers active in a wide range of markets. Alpes Lasers offers a wide selection of products and services in the photonics and optoelectronics domain.

Alpes Lasers specializes in the development of cascade lasers, and was the first company to commercialise Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs). QCLs are used in various applications such as gas detection, medical applications and infrared countermeasures (DIRCM). IR light sources are of particular interest since almost all substances have strong molecular fingerprints in the IR spectral region. IR sources are therefore used in a wide range of applications from clinical diagnostics to environmental and industrial quality control.

Alpes Lasers aims to maintain its leading position in the IR photonics & optoelectronics industry. With a large R & D team and over 300 years of cumulative experience in QCL development and microelectronics, Alpes Lasers is involved in numerous research projects for both the European union and the US government, regarding the development of novel photonics applications. Many of these potential applications are not yet fully exploited and several multinational partners, especially in the large consumer electronics, rely on us to identify the most suitable product development strategy and to help them with the fabrication of prototypes and IP protection.

beam combining opticsS E

The Alpes Lasers Beam Combiner is a platform that allows the output beam of two different quantum cascade lasers in standard HHL housing to be combined into a single beam. The system uses fixed optics to rotate the polarization of one of the beam and combines them using a polarizing plate, resulting in a combined beam with the combined power of both original beams. The platform is supplied with both laser housing installed and aligned. The lasers use separate drivers (drivers and temperature controllers sold separately) and can be driven independently or concurrently.

Alpes Lasers manufactures laser diodes emitting at wavelengths from 1.45 to 2.15 μm with powers up to 50 mW. They are offered either as chip-on-carrier or encapsulated in a low power TO-66 package with collimated or divergent free-space beam output.

Alpes Lasers offers single-mode, tunable DFB lasers with wavelengths from 4 to 14 μm and powers up to hundreds of milliwatts. These lasers are able to emit a single wavelength at a time. They can be tuned within a range that can reach up to 10 cm−1; there exists a variety of modulation schemes which can be used for different purposes.

Alpes Lasers offers mid-IR external cavity lasers with wavelengths spanning 4.3 to 14 μm. External cavity kits with integrated laser control electronics are also available. These are Fabry-Perot lasers designed for maximum width of the gain profile.

Alpes Lasers offers two models of laser safety goggles. The LSG1 is suitable for people not wearing glassed, while the LSG2 is suitable to be worn over a pair of corrective glasses. Both models provide 6+ OD in the mid-IR.

Fabry–Perot laser diodesS E

Our broad gain illuminators are Fabry–Pérot lasers designed for maximum width of the gain profile. They can be used as broad spectrum illuminators for spectroscopy or imaging. Combined with an anti-reflection coating, they are suitable for use in an external cavity to obtain a tunable laser with wide tuning range. Their wide and flat gain spectrum can also be suitable to develop frequency combs.

Alpes Lasers offers mid-IR frequency combs centred around 6 μm or 8 μm. The QCL comb is a stand alone device as it integrates the pump laser and the microcavity in its waveguide contrarily to other comb technologies. This makes it a very compact comb source. Being based on QCL technology, comb devices can be manufactured over all the MWIR and LWIR.

high-power lasersS Ehigh-power lasers from Alpes Lasers

At wavelengths between 3.9 and 9.7 μm, Alpes Lasers offers multiple high power Fabry-Pérot lasers up to 1.5 W. These Quantum Cascade Lasers have a minimum average power of 1 W and more than 9 W of peak power. Available in a collimated HHL package with a dedicated driver, these lasers can be used for free-space optical communications, energy deposition, illumination and IR countermeasures.

Alpes Lasers offers QCL laser drivers for pulsed and continuous-wave operation. Pulse widths as low as 20 ns are achievable with repetition rates up to 1 MHz.
