Company Description
Cycle GmbH produces world-leading solutions for precision timing and synchronization of RF and optical equipment with sub-femtosecond precision. Because many of the interesting molecular dynamics happens in the femtosecond to nanosecond regime, we help photon science facilities around the world study these dynamics by providing unprecedented temporal resolution. These technologies were first developed at MIT more than a decade ago and have been continuously improved at DESY and Cycle GmbH. With our newest product family, SOPRANO, we offer cost-efficient femtosecond fiber lasers for multiphoton microscopy, micro-machining, and semiconductor testing.

dispersion-shifted fibers | S E | ![]() A growing number of applications in ultrafast lasers require proper dispersion compensation. Cycle GmbH offers PM dispersion compensating fibers for customized lengths with short lead times:
We also are happy to offer dispersion-matched PM fiber modules with customized fiber lengths and many possible fiber connectors. |
erbium-doped fiber amplifiers | S E | Based on Cycle's own femtosecond fiber lasers, the company also offers fiber-based amplifiers (EDFA) with a center wavelength of 1550 nm to 1700 nm. This variant of the SOPRANO-15 is a very attractive solution to amplify the output of beam arrival monitors in synchrotron or FEL facilities, for example. Other custom-made fiber amplifiers are available upon request. |
femtosecond lasers | S E | ![]() Cycle offers finest femtosecond fiber lasers with emission wavelengths from 532 nm to 1700 nm. The SOPRANO-15 is meant for laser material processing and emits 300-fs pulses with variable repetition rates and up to 5 μJ at 1560 nm (optional: 2 μJ at 780 nm with SHG option). The SOPRANO-15 mini is a multi-wavelength femtosecond fiber laser which is tunable around 1300 nm and 1700 nm. For more power, take the SOPRANO-15. |

fiber-optic links | S E | Based upon Cycle's ultrahigh-precision components for synchronization of ultrafast lasers, the company builds stabilized fiber-optic links. These allow the transmission of pulse trains with femtosecond precision over distances of up to 10 km. Many research facilities and other large-scale infrastructure around the world use Cycle' stabilized fiber links to synchronize their equipment over long distances. |

laser synchronization devices | S E | ![]() Cycle offers advanced modules for highly accurate detection of the relative timing between two pulse trains. There is the BOC, a balanced optical cross correlator, and the fully automated TCBOC (two-color balanced optical cross correlator). It can be used for ultra-low noise laser-to-laser synchronization with one common wavelength or two different wavelengths down to sub-10 fs integrated timing jitter and drift. |
mode-locked fiber lasers | S E | ![]() Cycle offers finest femtosecond fiber lasers with emission wavelengths from 532 nm to 1700 nm. The SOPRANO-15 is meant for laser material processing and emits 300-fs pulses with variable repetition rates and up to 5 μJ at 1560 nm (optional: 780 nm). The SOPRANO-15 mini is a multi-wavelength femtosecond fiber laser which is simultaneously tunable around 1300 nm and 1700 nm. For more power, take the SOPRANO-15. |

RF over fiber systems | S E | ![]() Cycle has the fully automated WAVE TIMING LINK for RF over fiber with the lowest timing jitter and drift in the market. It can be used for precise transfer and distribution of high-quality RF clock signals to remote locations, which can be even tens of kilometers away. It is actively stabilized and compensates any changes of optical path length caused e.g. by temperature variations. Cycle also offers the high precision PULSE timing distribution system (TDS), which enables sub-femtosecond distribution of timing signals to remote locations. It takes advantage of the inherently low noise pulse trains of a mode-locked laser (i.e. optical master oscillator, or OMO in short) and uses it as its timing signal which can be referenced to an optical or RF clock. The carefully selected OMO timing signal is transferred through fiber-optic timing links to multiple end stations where transmission delays are detected with attosecond resolution using Cycle’s patented balanced optical cross-correlators (BOC) and actively compensated. |
single-mode fibers | S E | ![]() A growing number of applications in ultrafast lasers require proper dispersion compensation. Cycle GmbH offers dispersion compensating fibers for customized lengths with short lead times:

testing equipment and services for optics and photonics | S | ![]() Cycle offers advanced modules for highly accurate detection of the relative timing between two pulse trains. There is the BOC, a balanced optical cross correlator, and the fully automated TCBOC (two-color balanced optical cross correlator). Also, we have the fully automated BOMPD, a balanced optical microwave phase detector, which precisely detects the time delay between an optical pulse train and the zero-crossings of a microwave signal. We are selling such devices, but also offer services for time and frequency metrology. |

timing jitter measurement devices | S E | ![]() Cycle offers advanced modules for highly accurate detection of the relative timing between two pulse trains. There is the BOC, a balanced optical cross correlator, and the fully automated TCBOC (two-color balanced optical cross correlator). It can be used for ultra-precise measurements of the relative timing jitter of two femtosecond lasers (which may have different wavelengths). The fully automated BOMPD, a balanced optical microwave phase detector, precisely detects the time delay between an optical pulse train and the zero-crossings of a microwave signal. It generates a baseband signal that is proportional to the timing error between the two inputs, which in turn can be used in a phase locked loop configuration to tightly synchronize a laser to a microwave source or vice versa. Due to its balanced detection scheme, the BOMPD is immune to amplitude fluctuations of both optical and microwave sources and greatly suppresses the AM-PM conversion noise in the photodetection process. |
