Company Description

Eblana Photonics specialize in the design and production of laser diodes in the NIR & MIR (650 nm – 2400 nm) based on our proprietary Discrete-Mode (DM) platform.

We enable our customers to solve problems in areas such as gas sensing, bio sensing, telecommunications, LIDAR and quantum optics. Our objective is to drive technology forward by matching our expertise in laser design with challenging and diverse customer requirements, from research to volume production.

Eblana Photonics has its origins in advanced research programs in photonics involving Ireland’s leading Universities and Research Centres including Trinity College Dublin and the National Microelectronics Research Centre (now Tyndall National Institute).

Eblana was established out of a common desire to commercialise a scalable laser manufacturing technology which had the capacity to drive down the cost of high performance, single wavelength lasers for diverse mass market applications.

The team at Eblana Photonics is vastly experienced in all areas of laser manufacture, from epitaxial structure design, to III-V processing and etch chemistry, all the way to backend test, facet coating and packaging. Eblana Photonics lasers are designed from the ground up to suit a multitude of applications and customers. Eblana’s products are used extensively for trace gas sensing and environmental monitoring in the near- and mid-IR.

In addition, the inherent low linewidth performance of the DM platform in comparison to typical DFB lasers is uniquely suited to distributed fibre sensing and LIDAR applications, as well as scientific and metrology projects.

Eblana’s proprietary DX-1 laser/temperature controller is a low noise, high stability driver solution for CW and modulated usage scenarios. The device’s accurate bias and temperature tuning via the single 4-pin voltage connector allows easy benchtop operating for testing, and simplifies integration for applications such as field monitoring of environmental pollutants, portable LIDAR systems, gigabit ethernet and more.

Eblana Photonics’ EP1550-0-NLW Series laser diodes have advanced capabilities with extremely narrow linewidths in comparison to equivalent DFB devices. This laser has a free running linewidth of 100 kHz or less, in a monolithic chip with no external cavity or other linewidth narrowing structures. Eblana’s patented Discrete-Mode technology allows for narrow linewidth laser diode designs at low operating currents.
