At Vortex Optical Coatings Ltd we design and manufacture in the UK visible and infrared filters, dichroic filters and IR linear variable filters. We operate from 300–6000 nm. We also have a fast turnaround anti-reflection coating service (the best in the industry!). We aim to be quick to respond to enquiries and are way ahead of industry standard lead-times. Problem solving fast prototypes, long term contract/call off supply and reverse engineering of legacy filters are other services we offer. anti-reflection coatings | ![]() At vortex we can manufacture any custom anti-reflection (AR) coating between 300 nm to 6000 nm. The two main types of anti-reflection coating are are broadband and V-coat AR’s (which includes multi-V-coats). Broadband AR coatings are designed to reduce reflections over a wide range of wavelengths. This makes them suitable for applications that need to perform across a broad spectrum of light. V-coat AR coatings are optimised for one specific wavelength or a very narrow range. These can be combined to create multi V-Coats, optimised for multiple wavelength points for example 532, 633 and 1064 nm. |
beam splitters | ![]() At Vortex we can design and manufacture any custom beamsplitters, beam-combiners, and dichroic filters between 300 nm to 6000 nm whether they be cubes, plates or polarising filters. We are able to provide comprehensive spectral reports for any angle of incidence for all enquiries. |

At Vortex we hold a large stock of standard optics on the shelf ready for immediate coating such as glass, sapphire, silicon, IR quartz. If we do not have the materials or sizes that you require, we have a network of trusted optics suppliers whom we can source from and apply any custom optical coatings that you require between 300 and 6000 nm. |
dichroic mirrors | ![]() We design and manufacture custom dichroic filters between 300 and 6000 nm. Dichroic filters are often either a long pass filter reflecting the short waves and transmitting the long waves, or a short pass filter transmitting the shorter wavelengths and blocking the longer wavelengths, often at 45° AOI. |
hyperspectral imaging instruments | ![]() At Vortex we are able to support hyperspectral imaging applications in the infrared with our Linear Variable Filters. We have three standard ranges that can be purchased from our web shop: 900 – 1700 nm, 1300 – 2600 nm and 2500 – 5000 nm, all in a stock size of 15 mm long, 3.5 mm wide and 0.5 mm thick. We can also manufacture totally custom linear variable filters on custom ranges and different size substrates. |
infrared optics | ![]() At Vortex we are able to manufacture custom optical coatings in the near and mid infrared regions between 900 and 6000 nm. Whether you are looking for bandpass filters, long/short pass filters, beamsplitters, AR coatings (and many other coating types), we can apply these to a whole range of substrates, many of which we hold in stock on our shelves for immediate coating so we are able to offer very good lead times compared to the industry standard. |

We design and manufacture custom attenuator coating across a range of 300 nm – 6000 nm for a variety of applications. The main uses of attenuators are protecting sensitive detectors from overload, attaining accurate laser power measurements and being used in filter wheels to balance the system for particularly strong signals. |
