Workshop of Photonics has circular gratings, also known as flat axicons, are space-variant retarder plates that can transform Gaussian beams into Bessel–Gauss beams.

WOP offers beam shapers for various applications. Our circular grating / flat axicon is a space-variant retarder that transforms a Gaussian beam into a Bessel-Gauss beam.

Main features:

  • converts Gaussian beam to a flat-top beam
  • high damage threshold: 63.4 J/cm2 at 1064 nm, 10 ns and 2.2 J/cm2 at 1030 nm, 212 fs
  • wavelength range from 300 nm to 2 μm
  • conversion efficiency up to 70% (wavelength-dependent)

WOP offers custom-made space variant retarders – adapted to the specific end-user needs. Space-variant retarders (SVR) fabrication is based on the inscription of self-organized nanogratings inside fused silica glass using a femtosecond laser.

Main features:

  • wavelength range from 200 nm to 3500 nm
  • high damage threshold: 63.4 J/cm2 at 1064 nm, 10 ns and 2.2 J/cm2 at 1030 nm, 212 fs – suitable for high LIDT applications and high-power lasers

WOP offers diffractive optical elements for THz frequencies – various types of custom elements suitable for your specific THz wave manipulation applications.

The terahertz frequency range ranges from 0.1 THz to 10 THz in an emerging wide research field with multiple applications – from communication to optical imaging or spectroscopy. Various materials such as semiconductors, metals, polymers, or plastics can be used as functional materials. One of the key applications is THz optical imaging which enables seeing through transparent and opaque materials. Ultrashort pulse laser processing is used as a precise tool to manufacture diffractive and custom optical elements.

WOP offers fabrication services for optical fiber alignment arrays (1D, 2D micro-hole arrays). Laser micromachining, together with SLE which we use for fiber alignment structures production, offers definite advantages in terms of precision, consistency, speed, material versatility, and cost-effectiveness.

Using our laser micromachining method, critical features such as tight tolerances, tight positional accuracies, and hole diameter – within the tolerance of ±0.25 μm – can be achieved. This tight control of metrics ensures well-controlled alignment that might reduce insertion loss and provide good repeatability.

Moreover, this method enables forming the hole entrance as a funnel, step profile, or with a conical taper for easy fiber insertion. The channels can be straight or angled (like 8̊ ).
