Das Konzept des Sponsoring
Die RP Photonics Encyclopedia, eine riesige Open-Access-Enzyklopädie für Optik und Photonik, ist von enormem Nutzen für die gesamte Photonik-Community. Tausende wissenschaftliche Forscher genauso wie Angehörige der Photonik-Industrie benutzen sie regelmäßig — kostenlos und in völlig anonymer Weise, da wir den Datenschutz vollkommen respektieren. Die Enzyklopädie hat eine hohe Reputation für ihre wissenschaftliche Qualität und ihren praktischen Nutzen, und viele Professionelle sind dafür sehr dankbar. Ebenfalls betreiben wir eine virtuelle Ausstellung als einen weiteren Service für die Community.
RP Photonics bietet Sponsoring für die Enzyklopädie an. Eine begrenzte Anzahl von Sponsoren kann dieses Projekt offiziell mit einem jährlichen Beitrag unterstützen. Damit zeigt man, dass man solche Leistungen für die Community schätzt und unterstützt, und hierfür wird man dann ebenfalls entsprechende Aufmerksamkeit und Anerkennung erfahren.

Die Logos unserer Sponsoren erscheinen sehr oft im oberen Bereich der Webseiten der Enzyklopädie (inklusive vieler zugehöriger Seiten, z. B. dem Photonics Spotlight):

Bei jedem Aufruf einer Seite der Enzyklopädie werden bis zu fünf Logos von Sponsoren (in zufälliger Reihenfolge) angezeigt.
Jedes Logo eines Sponsors ist mit der Profilseite des Anbieters verlinkt, die viele weitere Details (volle Adresse, Link zur Website, Firmenbeschreibung, Sponsor-Statement, angebotene Produkte etc.) enthält. Das Sponsoring wird ebenfalls an diversen anderen Orten gezeigt, beispielsweise auf dem Firmenprofil im RP Photonics Buyer's Guide, auf den Seiten der virtuellen Ausstellung, in einem zufällig auf der rechten Seite angezeigten Banner sowie auf dieser Seite (siehe oben).
Die Enzyklopädie: Ergebnis harter Arbeit
Dr. Paschotta, der Gründer und Geschäftsführer von RP Photonics, investiert ziemlich viel seiner Arbeitszeit in die Entwicklung dieser Enzyklopädie, die er 2004 begonnen hat. Inzwischen gibt es bereits 1138 Artikel, und auch die bestehenden werden immer weiter verbessert.
Vorschläge von Sponsoren (wie von allen anderen auch) für die Behandlung weiterer Themen oder Ergänzungen in existierenden Artikeln sind immer willkommen. Dr. Paschotta wird allerdings stets nur solche Anregungen aufnehmen, die er für angemessen und hilfreich für die Community hält.
