RP Fiber Power Speed Test Program
We offer a test program with which you can check the computation speed of two different versions – with and without the Numerical Power Package – on the computer which you intend to use.
This program is not suitable for testing the general functionality of RP Fiber Power; it is made only for the mentioned speed tests.
Depending on whether your Windows version is a 32-bit or 64-bit version, please download the corresponding setup program:
(The 32-bit version can also run on a 64-bit Windows version, but is not recommended in such cases, because it cannot fully utilize your main memory and is also somewhat slower.)
If you execute such a setup program, it will install two different versions – with and without the Numerical Power Package. (You will find two shortcuts on your Windows desktop, and can also find corresponding entries in the Windows Start menu.)
Each version one can perform two different speed tests, one based on ultrashort pulse propagation and one on numerical beam propagation. Typically, such a speed test takes a couple of seconds, and in the end it displays the required computation time. For getting reliable results, you should execute it while no other application is consuming substantial computation resources.
For comparison, on a desktop PC made in 2013, containing an Intel Core-i7-4770 CPU with 3.4 GHz clock speed, the following test results have been obtained with the 64-bit version:
- version without the Numerical Power Package: 8.8 s for test 1, 18.8 s for test 2
- version without the Numerical Power Package: 1.6 s for test 1, 1.0 s for test 2
This means a speed enhancement of a factor 5.5 in test 1 and 18.8 in test 2.
The speed enhancement obtained in different scripts depends very much on the type of calculations done, and also on your computer. However, we expect a substantial speed enhancement – although not always as high as demonstrated here – for scripts where most of the CPU time is required for ultrashort pulse propagation or beam propagation calculations.
