RP Fiber Power – Simulation and Design Software
for Fiber Optics, Amplifiers and Fiber Lasers

RP Fiber Power V8

RP Photonics is set to complete the development of RP Fiber Power V8 in June 2023. Much work has been out into updating various parts of the scripting language, making it easier and more efficient to use. Most excitingly, the software introduces a new Power Form feature, which enables users to conduct highly sophisticated simulations out of the box: simply input your parameters, make various selections, and execute the simulation without any need to work with script code!

The Power Forms available include:

Continuous-wave Fiber Amplifier with Multiple Stages

  • supports up to 5 amplifier stages, with the ability to select or deselect individual stages
  • allows placement of filters (featuring wavelength-dependent losses) between stages
  • accommodates up to 5 pump sources (with varying directions, wavelengths, bandwidths, and input powers) for each stage
  • handles up to 10 input signals, which can be quasi-monochromatic or possess a specific spectral shape
  • incorporates amplified spontaneous emission (ASE), which may or may not be transferred between stages

Continuous-wave Fiber Laser and Amplifier Stages

  • includes one fiber laser
  • supports up to 5 amplifier stages, with the ability to select or deselect individual stages
  • offers various pump sources and ASE options
  • provides a wide range of diagram types

A screen shot gives you an impression of how detailed that form is:

Pulsed Fiber Amplifier

  • similar to the first Power Form, but designed for pulsed signals
  • offers numerous input signal options, such as different pulse shapes and wavelengths

Ultrashort Pulse Fiber Amplifier

  • resembles the previous Power Form but accounts for chromatic dispersion and nonlinearities, essential for picosecond or femtosecond pulses

Fiber Modes

  • calculates guided fiber modes and presents their properties in a comprehensive table
  • can use various types of refractive index profiles

Common Features of the Power Forms

  • cisplays only relevant sections of the forms
  • provides a variety of numerical outputs
  • offers numerous diagram types, often customizable (e.g., linear or dBm scale), and frequently showing multiple versions (e.g., one for each amplifier stage)

Full Flexibility for Further Extensions!

While Power Forms are highly adaptable and offer a vast range of options, users may require additional features, such as extra diagrams. As these forms are essentially custom forms defined in scripts, they can be further customized. Users can modify them independently or seek assistance from technical support.

With this software version, we have successfully combined ease of use and maximum flexibility like never before.
